As some may know, I am working on a completely revamped edition of Lee Harvey Oswald’s Cold war which was an Oswald bio taking his story up until 1959. It included some history of FBI and CIA involvement in Colombian afairs throught the first half of the 20th century. Those who have read the book will understand why.

The new title will simply be REOPEN THE KENNEDY CASES and wll be published as a single volume, split in several ‘“mini” books which will take the story through to at least Sunday November 24, 1963.

The minibooks comprising the volume are

BOOK ONE: BOGOTA RIPPLES (1903 – 1994)

Looks at

  • the role of United Fruit, the FBI’s SIS, Dept of State, and CIA.

  • The annexing of Panama so that the US could gain control of the Panama Canal at the price it wanted

  • The illegal supply of platimum to the Axis countries during WWII

  • The assassination of Jorge Gaitain – the start of the ripples which saw two more identical assassinations in different countries many years apart

BOOK TWO: LEE HARVEY OSWALD’S COLD WAR (1942 – 1959)

Includes

  • For the first time, a complete bio of Edwin Ekdahl

  • The real work John Pic was doing while Lee and Margerite lived in New York

  • Potted bios of Straus family members who controlled the purse strings of Youth House – and their surprising and direct connections to other people and institutions of great interest

  • How the real legend of Oswald was built starting in New York (which I call phase one in the making of the legend)

  • More on CAP – and the personal consequences and wider ramification of exposing secrets

  • Oswald’s CAP and other adventures in New Orleans – phase two of the making of the legend

  • Entry into the Marines – phase three of the making of the legend

  • The CIA work of Sylvia Hyde Hoke

  • How and where Oswald learned Russian and the facts about his test results

BOOK THREE: SUPERPOWERS (1959 – 1962)

  • Oswald’s time in the Soviet Union

BOOK FOUR: FALSE NARRATIVES (1962 -1963)

  • Exposing the many false narratives surrounding Oswald’s return to the US

BOOK FIVE (TITLE UNDECIDED)

  • The assassination weekend

Progress

Am about halfway through book two. Books three, four and five have yet to be fully teased out as to what will be included. There is a mountain of research to sift through and sort, but I am very hopeful that I have a co-author on board who has already done a lot of the heavy lifting by further fleshing out my research into the alleged Mexico City trip. In fact, so much new material has been generated, a second book on Cold War programs and o[erations may also evolve.

Note that it is at this stage, still a living document, and the titles, inclusions, and layout may change over time.

Style and layout

I am using a hybrid Oxford style that borrows ideas from a variety of non-fiction works I have read over the years.

Each mini book is split into mini chapters (whereas the previous book was split into two volumes, each of thtee parts, and each part split into mini chapters). Each mini book will have its own appendices, endnotes, and index (wheras the previous book utilized both foot and endnotes – these have been combined into endnotes alone. I highly recommend reading these – though most will consist only of a citation – many will be used to provide additional information).

The above style and layout, though my preference, may be changed by a publisher.

Here is the latest iteration of the preface, giving further insight into what you can expect, and what not to expect from this work.

PREFACE

In the time since the first edition was published, I had put together a lot of the research for a third volume. Health issues intervened and that book was put on indefinite hold.

While recovering however, I was unable to stay away from digging in the tarpit. Discovery is the joy. Writing is the work.

The result of this was the need to update and revise the original edition before undertaking to complete the story. I am now up for the task.

So, what is new? Further file releases during 2017-18 and subsequent years for a start – though I want to make it clear that I do not, and never have, relied solely on the official files. Those files represent just one source of information. There are many other sources. Genealogy sites, archived newspapers and magazines, and collections of materials left to colleges and universities, among them. History books, memoirs and biographies are other excellent sources – especially when they are not specifically about the assassination but touch tangentially on aspects of the players or related events. This lessons the possibility of bias within those sources.

The initial release of this book itself caused other researchers to send more material in support of some of the main threads. In effect, I was able to generate further leads via the new files and this other material generously provided to me.

If you did not read the first edition, I hope you find value in these pages. If you did read it, you should find that the new material adds much more to the developing case for Lee Oswald’s innocence and the need for the authorities to reopen the investigation.

What follows is not a retelling. It is a reconstruction. This work does not seek comfort in consensus, nor validation in familiarity. It asks more of the reader: a willingness to shed assumptions and reckon with the scaffolding behind the story we thought we knew.

As the author, I’ve chosen precision over popularity, evidence over embellishment. I’ve pursued leads rarely followed and sifted through what others have dismissed as peripheral. Because buried in these overlooked details lie the fingerprints of systems, motives, and narratives too deliberate to be accidental.

This is a slow book. By design. Not in pace, but in resistance—to propaganda, to simplification, to the machinery of repetition. Whether it reaches a wide audience or reaches only a few curious minds, its purpose remains the same: to get it right.

  1. Dear Greg,

Whether or not self-described Marxist and former sharpshooting Marine radar operator Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK, what do you think of John Newman’s theory — based on former high-level CIA officer Tennent H. Bagley’s telling JFKA conspiracy theorist Malcolm Blunt that Oswald had to be a “witting” defector — that a KGB “mole” by the name of Bruce Leonard Solie (who “cleared” false defector Yuri Nosenko in 1968; look him up) in the CIA’s mole-hunting Office of Security sent (or duped his confidant, protégé, and mole-hunting superior, James Angleton, into sending) Oswald to Moscow in October of 1959 as an ostensible “dangle” in a (unbeknownst to Angleton and Oswald) planned-to-fail hunt for “Popov’s U-2 Mole” (Solie) in the wrong part of the CIA?

    1. Tom, this is about my upcoming book. I pay very little attention to what others are doing because what I do is original research, not cut and paste jobs.

If you want my opinion on someone else’s book or article, send it to me and I’ll read it and write a review.

In the meantime, if it’s possible for you, try and be a bit less ADHD and stick to the subject matter. ;-).
