800 police conduct raids on homes of “terror suspects”. Only 3 arrests are made – all  minor charges.

First tranche of anti-terror laws pass through the Australian Senate giving spy agency a whole raft of new powers… 

Since then, two acts of alleged terrorism have occurred in Canada and one in Australia – all put down to “lone wolf” acts. In each case, the person involved had had recent contact with an intelligence agency and in each case, the suspect was shot and killed.

The net result of all of this will be a very real and very deep curtailing of personal and legal rights, and a boost in the opinion polls for two governments which up until these events, were almost terminally distrusted and despised.  “Jihadists” seem to be the best friends Tories have.

The citizens of Canada and Australia need to make their voices heard. They need to call their governments out on these “coincidences”. Now more than ever, we need  a real alternative party to Labor – a once proud party which has fallen into lockstep with the Tories on these issues for fear of being wedged and worse, for fear of upsetting any allies.
